I did my best to notice, when the call came down the line. Up to the platform of surrender I was brought, but I was kind. And sometimes I get nervous when I see an open door. Close your eyes, clear your heart ... and cut the cord. Hey, pay my respects to grace and virtue. Send my condolences to good! Give my regards to soul and romance; they always did the best they could. And so long to devotion! You taught me everything I know. Wave goodbye, wish me well … You gotta let me go!

Personality:
Certainly the most interesting thing about Demyx’s personality is that -- like all Nobody’s -- he lacks a personality. Unable to feel, Nobodies shouldn’t be able to differentiate between what they like, what they don’t, when to react at certain times … but due to their previous life and memories of it, they know how to respond to certain stimuli. So when a situation provokes fear, they shiver, because that is what their body remembers. When a joke is told, their laughter is faked. When something is bothersome, they sigh, make a wave, and continue on with their existence.
Oddly, Demyx seems to be the one who is most reactive to these triggers. He smiles, he dances, he gestures wildly like he might know what he’s talking about when he’s the only member of the Organization that claims to have a heart. And he does claim it with reckless abandon, to whomever is willing to entertain him for the smallest moment, whether or not they are higher of rank than him or not. (And this could be why he has little respect from other members.)
Most of the time, he is fun-loving, work-avoidant, and generally a real dork.
However, there is also a second side to Demyx. He is water, and the ocean has a cold, dark, impenetrable death that is effervescently unexplored. The surface of the ocean is shined upon and bright and smiling, much like the façade Demyx carefully keeps up. But the below …
He warns people to “not judge others by the masks they wear” (rough Japanese translation), and that advice would be best executed. When the darker side of him is in full-swing, he can become violent, cruel, and offensive: everything a proper Nobody should be. Though these phases seem to wax and wane based on catalysts (for instance, trying to tell him irrefutably he lacks a heart), it’s not wise to trifle with this side of him.

History:
Like all the other Nobodies of Organization XIII, it is unknown and only theorized upon who Demyx might have been in a past life, his occupation, or even the events that led to his first death--that which made him a Nobody. However, there are irrefutable facts: a Nobody is created when a Heartless takes the heart of a strong-willed person and their body reanimates with a similar appearance. However, lacking a heart, they are emotionless, careless creatures that are recruited into The Organization (only completing itself and becoming “Organization XIII” when Roxas joins).
Demyx was brought in as Number IX: The Melodious Nocturne, with control over water via a instrument-turned-weapon: a sitar, styled after the Organization’s Symbol (The Heartless Symbol upside-down) . He is typically given small missions and even cue cards, insinuating that he has many higher members of the Organization cleverly fooled into thinking he’s an idiot, and he keeps up this ruse flawlessly.
It is in the Olympus Coliseum that Sora first encounters Demyx. With his hood up, Demyx is seen running through he pathways yelling, “Run! Run away!” Various theories run as to why exactly he’s running away, but Sora follows him, knowing he is the thief who stole the Olympus Stone, which allows the user to have control of his powers in the Underworld. Eventually Sora catches up with him (or, rather, Demyx seems to be waiting), where Demyx reads from his cue-card … (Pulled into World’s End at this point.)
